Netvibes

This week is all about Netvibes. To be honest I've never heard about it up until now. But I have been talking to Mina over the weekend and she explained a little. From what I could understand, it is a summary of all of my important pages all in one which sounds great. Usually I rely on my I-phone apps for that, so i will be nice to have an equivalent on my desktop/laptop. I started playing around with it and although creating it was really straight forward but editing proves to be not quite as stable and reliable. I keep changing things and when I refresh the page it has all gone back to the way it was before. You can't really change the colour of the tabs easily without having to change the whole theme. Also the updating is not very reliable and it keeps trying to update without anything happening. Also today I've realised the "Adding content" button is broken. I've tried using it on all 3 main browsers and still not much luck.
I'm hoping the tomorrow training session would shed a light on this whole thing and helps me using it better.

1984

I've been working on my blog for the last couple of days. Just a bit of exploring and experimenting with different functions. I like the fact that it's so customisable, it gives me to the option to make it as "goth" as possible ;-)
However today I found a brand new feature on it that makes me feel slightly uncomfortable. Under your name on the main page it tells you how many people have viewed your blog and when you click on it you can see what part of world they logged in from and even what browser they used. How very 1984 by George Orwell. It makes me feel very exposed. Considering I have played around with the privacy settings and allegedly I have removed my blog to appear in search engines, it's surprising to see that people from America and Germany have been viewing my blog!

Snow

Despite the snow I still managed to get to work on Friday and after the first hour of confusion we still had the SOT23 Programme training that we are running in University of Southampton Hartley Library. I couldn't take any scenic picture of the snow myself. But here's one I found online.
The training was quite useful. I have used Facebook/Twitter/Flickr and Youtube for my personal use before but it would be useful to see how they can be used in regards to my daytime job as a library assistant. Also here's my first attempt at creating a blog.
